I finally have internet!
Hello blog, passers-by, & those who still check in here; sorry for the delay but my new flat only got connected yesterday afternoon. Over the past fortnight I’ve only had the odd moment to go online, mainly to get flat payments sorted & look at quick emails. Even with it working now the connection is pretty shoddy.
To summarize what’s been going on, I returned to Dunedin from Te Anau on the 31st. After a four hour drive I immediately packed & moved to my new flat (ugh). Since then I’ve pretty much just been adjusting to the new place. At least I got to see Star Wars with my brother before the move.
Living without internet hasn’t been boring, not in probably the most otaku flat I’ll ever live in. The guys are fans of visual novels & at least half the games they have are from Japan, stuff like: Eternal Sonata, FFXIII, & DoDonPachi. Just last night they binged on a Hatsune Miko game till early morning. They’ve introduced me to anime like Boogiepop & Nichijou (probably the most random comedy I’ve every watched). These guys are probably geekier than I am. Who knows, I might become a convert soon.
All of them also brought their own consoles so our living room’s become a gaming centre. We’ve essentially just been binging on games for the past fortnight (haven’t allowed myself to do that in ages). Dark Souls has sort of become the main game half the flat & myself are co-playing through; the other half are kinda sick of watching us die in the same areas repeatedly :P. There’s also been Fallout New Vegas, Mario Tennis, Uncharted 2, Spelunky, Okami… yeah, a lot of games for different consoles.
It’s been fun, until I realized that’s the only thing we’ve really been doing, particularly now that I’ve returned to work. This blog has been the main thing that kept me on track with working towards my dreams though I’ve become lazy over the break. I haven’t done anything towards game development in a while, though I spotted new tutorials on the Unity site I’d like to try out. To be honest I’m not sure what to do next on that front.
For now, I have thoughts I’ve been writing down so expect posts about them. I’ll see if I can get back to posting once a week; a year & a half of consistent posting is a good track record in my book.
Anyway, I have about 70 emails to sort through & other online things to catch up with so I’ll leave it there. Good to be back.
